NexGold Mining Corp. and Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation have announced a significant step towards reconciliation and shared success in Canada’s mining sector with the signing of a new Relationship Agreement. The agreement compensates for historical exploration activities in the traditional territories of Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and sets the stage for improved First Nation participation in the future Goliath Gold Complex project.

The Relationship Agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between NexGold and Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation. It includes various commitments such as reconciliation measures that recognize and respect the inherent rights and Treaty and Aboriginal rights of the Nation, capacity funding for continued engagement and consultation activities, and the formation of a technical working group.
Additionally, the agreement provides new opportunities for First Nation participation in project activities through education, training, and mentorship programs. It also ensures interim benefits from exploration and other activities at the Goliath Gold Complex, as well as the negotiation of a life-of-mine agreement.
This new Agreement replaces the previous Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2011 between Tamaka Gold Corporation and Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation. NexGold is enthusiastic about pursuing innovative approaches and opportunities with the Nation to strengthen their relationship.
