Malaga Financial Corporation Reports Increase in Net Income for Q2 2024
Malaga Financial Corporation, the parent company of Malaga Bank FSB, has announced an increase in net income for the second quarter of 2024. The company reported a net income of $5,779,000, representing a 3% increase from the same period in 2023.
For the first six months of 2024, the company’s net income reached $11,791,000, showing a $322,000 or 3% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The annualized return on average equity for the first six months was 11.73%, while the annualized return on average assets was 1.62%.
The positive earnings trend can be attributed to various factors, including a $170,000 increase in net interest income after provision for loan losses, a $60,000 decrease in other operating expense, and a $43,000 decrease in nonoperating expense. Although there was an increase in income tax expense and a decrease in other operating income, the overall performance remained favorable.
Malaga Bank’s total assets decreased by 8% to $1.425 billion at the end of June 2024, compared to $1.544 billion in June 2023. The loan portfolio also decreased by $59.5 million or 5% during the same period. However, the bank remains well-capitalized, with core capital and risk-based capital ratios significantly exceeding the minimum requirements.
Randy C. Bowers, Chairman, President, and CEO of Malaga Financial Corporation, expressed his satisfaction with the continued year-over-year earnings increases and the bank’s excellent asset quality. He also commended the efforts of the bank’s colleagues in achieving these results.
