Renowned Sericulture Expert Rejoins Kraig Biocraft Laboratories to Oversee Second Production Cycle of Spider Silk Hybrids

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. is pleased to announce that Dr. Nirmal Kumar, a renowned sericulture expert, has rejoined the company’s team in Asia to oversee the completion of the second production cycle of BAM-1 spider silk hybrids. This exciting development comes as Kraig Labs prepares to cocoon and reel the second batch of BAM-1 hybrid spider silk.

Building on the success of the first production cycle completed in July, this second production cycle will generate recombinant spider silk that will be available for sale and use in end-market product development. It is part of Kraig Labs’ ongoing expansion of its BAM-1 production hybrids, with many more production cycles scheduled for this year.

Over the past month, the production team leaders and Dr. Nirmal Kumar have been in close daily communications, laying the groundwork and preparing the facilities for the BAM-1 hybrids, which are now in production. Dr. Nirmal Kumar, while present with the team, will supervise the cocoon production and monitor cocoon quality and reeling characteristics.

Furthermore, Dr. Nirmal Kumar will lead and train the team in large-scale selective matings, in preparation for a 10X increase in capacity as the rainy season concludes. This trip also provides an opportunity for Dr. Nirmal Kumar to review the team’s progress in building the necessary facilities, staffing, and equipment to sustain the company’s growing operations and meet its metric-ton level spider silk production target.

Company Founder and CEO, Kim Thompson, expressed his enthusiasm for Dr. Nirmal Kumar’s return, stating, ‘The BAM-1 hybrids, currently in production, continue to demonstrate the same robustness and performance seen in the spring production trials. Dr. Nirmal Kumar and our team have established a strong foundation for the massive scale-up in spider silk production, which is now underway. I am delighted to have Dr. Nirmal Kumar rejoin our production team in person as we enter this exciting phase of the rearing cycle. 2024 has been, and will continue to be, a breakout year for Kraig Labs.’

The completion of this second production cycle for BAM-1 hybrids will solidify Kraig Labs’ production model and reaffirm its industry-leading position in cost-effective and eco-responsible spider silk production.
